CARAVAN TRANSPORTATION CHECKLIST

  • Hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle while undistracted to avoid missing anything
  • Load hitch in open position onto tow pin with all draw bar weight on vehicle showing jockey wheel off the ground then press red lock button on hitch, attach dust cover
  • Wind jockey wheel all the way open into pin locator with wheel facing toward rear of trailer
  • Pivot jockey wheel assembly horizontal and ensure assembly is in towing position all the way from tow vehicle as possible
  • Connect safety chains with correct load rated “D” shackles in criss-cross formation to tow vehicle anchor points
  • Release handbrake
  • Connect brake away cord to anchor point on tow vehicle
  • Connect 12 pin light plug to vehicle
  • Connect Grey Anderson plug charge lead to vehicle
  • Connect Red Anderson plug for Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Check operation of all trailer lights to suit night driving conditions to ensure all working correctly, indicators, tail & brake, clearance lights
  • Retract all drop down stabiliser legs to horizontal position
  • Turn off all gas bottles at the bottle, do not travel with gas bottles on
  • Key lock all external storage compartments
  • Close all windows and lock in travel position
  • Set window blinds to travel position – blinds fully down and screens fully up
  • Close all roof hatches
  • Close pop top roof and secure all latches
  • Secure all loose item in trailer to avoid damage while in transit
  • Lock all internal compartments/doors
  • Lock shower door locks/bungy cord
  • Secure shower rose hose to avoid any damage while in transit
  • Secure fridge door with bungy strap if applicable latches for slide out type fridge
  • Insulate internal cook top under glass lid as precaution to avoid damage on rough roads
  • Lower pop top roof if applicable and lock all catches
  • Retract awning assembly and secure latches and thumb screws are tightened firm
  • Fit awning arm covers if available
  • Secure jerry cans in storage holders
  • Recheck wheel nuts when cold more frequently on rough roads
  • Maintain tyre pressures to suit driving conditions
  • Remove and store hoses and power leads
  • Start tow vehicle and check trailer BMS is charging trailer
  • Set BMS into travel mode leaving only fridge running
  • Lock entry door and secure vent dust cover if applicable to your trailer
